Rae's story

FROSTY START
RAE TORRES, SHUTTERBUGGY

Hello All

Growing up in the Bronx during the challenging 70s was not easy, but it is when I discovered my passion for photography and the arts. As a teenager, I found much peace and happiness through my camera lens and loose-leaf notebook paper and pencil.

I went on to join the Army, and attend photography school. As the staff photographer for the post, I had the honor of documenting important events and photographing dignitaries, from the President’s wife. I would hang out of helicopters, capturing breathtaking images from the sky.

Today, as a disabled veteran I continue to channel my passion, creating inspiring images that tell stories and evoke emotions.

River Art Emporium

For Community
MID-HUDSON BRIDGE

In 2005 Ramona opened a community art gallery in one of the underserved communities in New York State, Newburgh NY. For over 3 years River Art Emporium (named after Ramona’s nickname “RAE) was a hub for community members to drop in the participate in the conversation about the city’s state of affairs.

The gallery and studio served primarily for the community to learn and experience the many forms of art and photography shows.
